Cruise lines are upping their game with regards to what is on offer food wise. Alongside bounteous buffets, burgers and whippy ice cream, more and more cruise lines are offering cuisine from around the world and celebrity chef endorsed menus. With such names as Marco Pierre White and Guy Fieri becoming commonplace onboard P&O and Carnival ships respectively, the cruise holiday culinary offering seems to be more and more refined and wider in offering.
P&O offers lots of great opportunities for food lovers to indulge in delicious delights. Having a number of restaurants onboard ships and spending 40 days a year cruising on P&O ships, Marco Pierre White pioneers the food aspect. On the sweet side of things, master pâtissier Eric Lanlard will join passengers on two food and wine themed cruises and give them an insight into the design process behind his patisserie, cakes and desserts. Master of spices Atul Kochhar will be on board the P&O Ventura and Azura on certain dates, offering passengers his top Indian cooking tips and also has a restaurant on the Azura, Sindhu. Wine expert Olly Smith will also grace his presence on a number of cruises and has chosen wines for the Glass Room, an exclusive wine venue which is also onboard the P&O Azura.
Wine connoisseur Jilly Goolden will offer an insight into the knowledge and passion that she has on wine and will host the Wine Regions of Bordeaus and Rioja cruise onboard the Fred Olsen Braemar in October of 2013. Guests will be able to attend wine tastings hosted by Jilly who will also give talks about wines from the areas visited by the cruise such as Nantes, La Pallice, Getzo, Bordeaus, La Coruna and Aviles.
Norwegian Cruise Lines
Passengers onboard the Norwegian Breakaway will be pleased to learn that US Food Network star Geoffrey Zakarian is overseeing The Raw Bar and Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian onboard the ship. Serving delicious and tempting delights, Ocean Blue by Geoffrey Zakarian will be one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s first dedicated seafood restaurants.
High end fusion cuisine master Nobu Matsuhisa will host dinners, classes and Sake tastings onboard Crystal’s Black Sea Cruise in July 2013. Sake Master Fumio Hazu will join Nobu Matsuhisa for the “Omakase” dinners which mean that the selection of dishes is up to the chef. On other Crystal cruise ships, Nobu’s Silk Road and Sushi Bar are available to enjoy and are Nobu’s only seagoing culinary ventures.
Aaron Patterson is Head Chef of the Relais & Chateaux Hambleton Hall and joined Silversea on a Culinary Arts voyage. Shane Delia, one of Melbourne’s most innovative chefs is another guest chef, alongside Brazilian chef Yara Roberts and Michelin star chef Jason Atherton will grace the Silversea Silver Shadow with his presence in November 2013.
Wine buff Oz Clarke will join passengers onboard a 12-night cruise exploring the vineyards of France, Spain and Portugal. He will host wine master classes whilst guests will be able to participate in samplings, visit local vineyards and chateaux and have the opportunity to experience grape harvesting firsthand.

The days are gone when the buffet on an all inclusive cruise was the only way to enjoy food – now Michelin star chefs lead the way with the new generation of cruise cuisine.
